Job Description

Thorngate Churcher Trust’s Russell Churcher Court is a residential care home, specialising in high quality care for the frail elderly and those living with dementia. We seek an experienced, compassionate and qualified Senior Care Assistant with particular experience of residential care for older people living with dementia.

The successful candidate will be an excellent, proactive team player, also able to use their initiative and step up into a management role when deputising for the management. Comfortable with the responsibility of safely and appropriately administering medication to 44 residents, the successful candidate will promote and encourage residents independence and individuality, facilitating their involvement in decisions about their own care plans.

A flexible, pragmatic approach is required with regard to working hours. A working week will typically be 37 hours at a competitive rate with the opportunity for additional hours/shifts. Day and night shifts are rostered 2-3 weeks in advance with a rota for weekends, bank holiday and night working.

Key responsibilities

  • Promote and encourage the individuality, independence, self-respect and dignity of residents
  • Encourage and assist residents to participate in decisions concerning planning of their care
  • Ensure all care given is based upon the individual care assessment for each resident and that the care plan is administered to the highest standard
  • Maintain accurate and informative daily records for all residents
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date care plans, reviewing them regularly with particular regard to the emotional, physical, social and spiritual needs of the resident
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with residents’ relatives, as well as with outside organisations and professional colleagues
  • Undertake general observation and accurate reporting, both verbal and written, of residents’ physical, emotional, social progress or deterioration
  • Involvement, where appropriate, in resident reviews
  • When working nights, checking residents regularly throughout the night, ensuring their wellbeing and safety
  • Assist in the organising and facilitation of resident entertainment, inside and outside Russell Churcher Court
  • Ensure the safe storage, documentation and administration of medication is carried out in accordance with current guidelines and training
  • Ensure full compliance with all Health and Safety regulations, including those relating to cleaning materials within COSHH Regulations 1994
  • Inform promptly the manager of any serious illness, accident or defect within the premises and complete the appropriate records
