We’ve been named one of the Sunday Times’ Best Places to Work for the second year running

For the second year running, we’ve been recognised in the prestigious Sunday Times’ Best Places to Work list. These awards, powered by WorkL, recognise organisations which have consistently high levels of employee experience and wellbeing in the UK.

Thorngate Churcher Trust operates 154 supported living flats for older people, and provides residential care from its 44 bed Russell Churcher Court care home. Through a significant investment in wellbeing for its 81 staff members, Thorngate has reduced staff leavers by more than 50% in recent years, through a programme of open communication that includes multiple staff feedback channels, reward and recognition schemes, wellbeing support and opportunities for development – all of which have been created with input and feedback from the staff themselves to ensure effectiveness and value.

Thorngate’s Chief Executive, Anne Taylor, said: “These awards shine a spotlight on the organisations which have created workplaces that inspire, support and empower staff, and I am immensely proud of the work we have all done to help create a great place to work. We are committed to continually improving how we support our staff, actively seeking feedback and turning it into meaningful action. Everything we do is about teamwork, and it’s fantastic to have our efforts and success recognised with this award. Happy employees are the superpower helping Thorngate Churcher Trust thrive.”

Chairman Mark Hook said: “Over the past three years, we have achieved a significant reduction in sickness absence. This has been driven by a proactive and supportive approach, including early identification of potential issues related to mental health, open conversations and practical support tailored to individual needs. Our focus is on prevention as well as support, ensuring employees feel cared for and we’re honoured to have been afforded this fantastic accolade.”

This nationwide workplace survey honours and celebrates the UK’s top employers – which number over 550 organisations across industries and scale – and highlights the best workplaces for women, the LGBTQIA+ community, disabled employees, ethnic minorities, younger and older workers, as well as those that provide the best wellbeing support.
