Gosport care home Russell Churcher Court has an important place in the life of Sarah Merrick.
She has worked as a carer at the home for the last 14 years and her mum, Margaret Gale, was a resident for six years before she died this summer.
Sarah was keen to honour her mum’s memory and has contributed to a potentially life-saving defibrillator which will be available for use by anyone in the local community.
“I wanted to do something in memory of mum, and this seemed like a perfect way to both remember her and potentially save a life,” said Sarah.
The defibrillator was supplied by The Big Match which fundraises to get more defibrillators into the community.
In addition to Sarah’s donation, the care home hosted its own summer party at the end of September to complete funding of the equipment and box to make it easily available to the local community.
“Margaret was a wonderful resident here at Russell Churcher Court and everyone misses her,” said Thorngate Churcher Trust chief executive Anne Taylor. “The generous donation from Sarah and the additional fundraising to buy the defibrillator is a wonderful way to remember Margaret.”
