Celebrating the official opening of Compigne Court

More than 80 residents, supporters and staff celebrated the official opening this week of Compigne Court, our state-of-the-art independent living development of 30 retirement apartments in Grove Road, Gosport which is now home to 36 local people.

The event was an opportunity for us to thank the many people and organisations who helped bring the dream of Compigne Court to reality. Guests enjoyed a few thank you speeches, a delicious afternoon tea and guided tours around the development.

Thorngate chief executive Anne Taylor commented: “It was a very proud day, seeing this modern, high spec and comfortable development now officially open and fully occupied. We’re driven to delivering more housing for local people – helping to keep people safe, and providing a warm and secure home, free of fear. Our very long housing waiting list shows how important our work is, and that residents greatly value the cost-effectiveness of our community housingoffering.

“Heartfelt thanks go to the imaginative Thorngate Board, under the chairmanship of Mark Hook, who have supported this ambitious project throughout. Our thanks also to our amazing employer’s agent Jon Squire of Holloway Squire Partnership, builders Vale Southern Construction, architects Boon Brown, Homes England, Charity Bank and the Thorngate senior leadership team.”

Compigne Court is named after one of the founding trustees of the original charities Henry Compigne in the 1860s. The apartments, for those over 50 and of limited means, enable people to live independently with the benefit of 24/7 warden support, emergency call system, communal lounges, a repairs and maintenance service, tranquil landscaped grounds and resident and guest parking.

Spread over three floors, the 30 one bedroom apartments at Compigne Court each has a balcony, spacious kitchen/dining area, bedroom, bathroom/wet room and hallway with storage.

We now operate 154 assisted living apartment in Gosport and a 44 bed care home for older people and those living with dementia.
