Thorngate Living seeks a self-motivated, organised and experienced cook to join its outstanding catering team in the well-equipped professional kitchen at Russell Churcher Court care home.

At Thorngate Living we are justifiably proud of the delicious meals we make and serve every day for our residents.

Our modern, well-equipped professional kitchen, is located at Russell Churcher Court care home and caters for a range of dietary requirements, creating varied menus from fresh, locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. We are now looking to appoint a new cook. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, organised and experienced. Reporting to, and when necessary, deputising for the catering manager, this role is accountable to the care home's Registered Manager.

A team player, the ideal candidate will have a proactive approach and able to work on their own initiative. The role is responsible for the preparation, cooking and service of appetising, nutritional food to a high standard. Thorngate Living champions best practice and innovation and this role will suit an applicant with a similar approach.

Other essential aspects of the role include adherence to hygiene standards in compliance with Food Safety Act 1990 and the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 including correct use, storage and maintenance of cleaning materials within COSHH Regulations 1994. 

Rigorous monitoring of procedures, ordering of supplies and efficient record are important.  A working week is 36 hours and a daily break is paid. As the kitchen operates 365 days a year - our cook is required to work rota weekends and bank holidays.

In addition to a pay rate of £8.67 per hour (NVQ level 3), the Trust offers a pension scheme, a friendly working environment, attractive location and free parking.
