Thorngate chef Lis Abel has been shortlisted for a national award which recognises the work of catering staff in the care home sector.
Lis is head chef at Thorngate Churcher Trust where she works to provide the very best nutrition for residents in the 44-bed Russell Churcher Court care home.
She has been shortlisted for the Independent Care Home Caterer of the Year Award in the Care Home Catering Awards with the winners announced in London at the end of November.
Lis has worked in catering for the last 24 years and is hugely experienced in ensuring that all residents receive nutritious and attractive meals and that they enjoy mealtimes.
In addition to NVQ Level 4 in catering and hospitality, Lis regularly attends additional training courses to ensure that she and her staff are up to date with developments in the industry and best practice.
Thorngate chief executive Anne Taylor said that Lis leads a dedicated catering team at Thorngate which strives to ensure residents receive the best possible menus, plenty of variety and foods familiar from their past which is particularly valuable when catering for residents with dementia.
“Food is a hugely important part of our care home and Lis is extremely good at ensuring that everyone enjoys their meals, they eat food that they like and that this provides all the nutrients that older people need,” said Anne. “We’re delighted to see Lis shortlisted for this award.”
